Some of my earliest memories in my life were of me dancing around, singing songs and always entertaining. I had a love for dance that took me from the studio as a child, to a degree in dance in college, to a professional career in my twenties. I did well for myself, accomplished most of what I set out to do, and got to live in some amazing places (Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York). At one point I just didn’t want to deal with the constant judgement and brutally cut throat competitive nature that comes with working in the entertainment industry, so I walked away before it had the chance to break me. At the time I carried a feeling of guilt thinking that I threw my talent away, but the reality was that the entertainment industry always left me feeling like I wasn’t enough. I knew in my heart that I needed to pursue my next great venture.
I had done yoga before, but it never completely captured me until I picked up the practice while living in Miami, FL. The movement felt good for my body, but the best part was the peace I felt after class. My type A personality was tamed, and I began to feel whole again. I did the work I had to do to rebuild my confidence, heal, love a little more, regenerated my creativity and find happiness. Suddenly my life’s path was clear as day, and I made the decision to become a became a Yoga Teacher. Yoga is medicine for the mind and body and the practice can shift as you shift. I get to remind people of that every single day.
In my childhood years, I talked about becoming a dancer one day and opening a studio. I would talk about being a business owner when I was 10 years old. I revisited that idea again at age 30. My vision had since shifted and reshaped it’s self into a place for mostly adults. I didn’t want to box the idea into just a yoga studio, because I do believe that people need various types of movement in different periods of their life. Jenstar “The Movement Studio” officially opened in 2013 in De Pere. People ask all the time, so I’ll address it here… Jenstar is my nickname given to me by a friend that came out to see one of my shows in Las Vegas. The name stuck with my cast, crew, and friends ever since. When I moved to WI and was creating my LLC, Jenstar was the first thing that came to mind, so here we are.
