Some of my earliest memories in my life were of me dancing around, singing songs and always entertaining. I had a love for dance that took me from the studio as a child, to a degree in dance in college, to a professional career in my twenties. I did well for myself, accomplished most of what I set out to do, and got to live in some amazing places (Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York). At one point I just didn’t want to deal with the constant judgement and brutally cut throat competitive nature that comes with working in the entertainment industry. I walked away before it had the chance to break me. At the time I carried a feeling of guilt thinking that I threw my talent away, but the reality was that the entertainment industry often left me feeling like I wasn’t enough. I knew in my heart that I needed to pursue my next great venture.
I had done yoga before, but it never completely captured me until I picked up the practice while living in Miami, FL. The movement felt good for my body, but the best part was the peace I felt after class. My type A personality was tamed, and I began to feel whole again. I did the work I had to do to rebuild my confidence, heal, love a little more, regenerated my creativity and find happiness. Suddenly my life’s path was clear as day and I made the decision to become a became a Yoga Teacher. Yoga is medicine for the mind and body and the practice can shift as you shift. I get to remind people of that every single day.
In my childhood years, I talked about becoming a dancer one day and opening a dance studio. I would talk about being a business owner when I was 10 years old. I revisited that idea again at age 30. My vision had since shifted and reshaped into wellness studio. I didn’t want to box the idea into just a yoga studio, because I do believe that people need various types of movement in different periods of their life. Jenstar “The Movement Studio” officially opened in 2013 in De Pere and is now virtually serving up classes beyond the Green Bay Yoga community to people all around the country!
Last, people ask often, so I’ll share… JENSTAR is my nickname given to me by a friend that came out to see one of my shows in Las Vegas. The name stuck with my cast, crew, and friends ever since. When I moved to WI and created my LLC, Jenstar was the first thing that came to mind, so here we are.

Jenstar Studio Philosophy
I have been an entrepreneur for over 10 years, a studio owner the last 6 years, but movement educator and fitness lover most of my life always seeking to live with purpose. It means a lot for me to be authentic in anything that I do and plug in whole-heartedly. This carries over into the business I own, the instructors I collaborate with, and the beautiful community of people we have attracted over the years.
I opened a studio for a few of reasons:
1) I believe that yoga can positively change one’s life for the better in a number of ways. I, like many other teachers, want to share and do my best to honor yoga’s lineage.
2) I value community and the empowerment around self-growth. We can work on ourselves, but do it together. It is so much more fulfilling to know other people are in it with you and support you on your individual journey.
3) A safe space to grow and explore in your wellness journey is very healing. You can experience new movement methods, different philosophies, different ideas. We can learn and unlearn and design a life that feels right for us.
Fitness in multi-dimensional. It is a blend of physical movement, mental wellness, nutrition, life skills, social circle (community) ect. Whether our offerings are online or in-person, we continue to hold energy space for people to come together and work on their various fitness levels. Are you willing to show up for yourself, even when life is messy?
